Celebration of Athletes

On Friday evening May 29th 2026, over 100 athletes, family members, board members, volunteers, ambassadors, vendor partners and friends of the games gathered for the annual Celebration of Athletes at the Elks Club in Portland, highlighting the 40th Anniversary.

We applauded Anita Chandler’s incredible vision 40 years ago as she ignited the Games, and humbly offered her the Legacy Award. We recognized the outstanding accomplishments of Catherine Lyons and Roger Zimmerman as our Female and Male Athletes of the Year, we applauded the dedication and creativity of Sue Schenning as our Claudia Lackee Volunteer of the Year and cheered Richelle Sipiora as she accepted the Jo Dill Spirit of the Games Award.

We also inducted the 2026 Class of the Hall of Fame by adding Jackie Belanger, Jim Goodman, Tammy Pinkham and the 207 Basketball Team including Christine Dulac, Elizabeth Harrington, Cathy Iaconeta, Kelly LaFountain, Debbie Sullivan, Michelle Lambert, Julie Woodbury, Assistant Coach Dani Iaconeta and Coach Diana Manduca. These 17 individuals represent the best of the Maine Senior Games – dedicated, strong, hard-working, and inspirational, and it was an honor to be among them.

Cheers to the Maine Senior Games Community for an amazing 40 years – and here’s to many more.  LONG LIVE THE GAMES!
