How to Qualify for the National Senior Games

Start your journey to the National Senior Games with these steps!

An athlete must be at least 50 years of age by December 31, 2026 to be eligible for the 2027 National Senior Games presented by Humana.

To compete in most sports, an athlete must qualify at a state senior games in the year before the National Senior Games. For the 2027 National Senior Games, athletes must qualify in 2026.

General qualification methods include:

  • Place: for most sports, athletes qualify by placing in the top four of their age group at a qualifying state senior games.
  • Minimum performance standards: Certain sports allow qualification by minimum performance standards (MPS). To qualify by MPS, an athlete must meet or exceed the MPS for their age at a qualifying state senior games.
  • Open sports are available to all eligible participants and do not require qualification.
  • Check the 2027 games rulebook for qualification guidelines for each sport.

Results from a qualifying state senior games will be submitted to the National Senior Games Association office. After results are verified, athletes will receive a postcard from the National Senior Games.

I competed in the 2026 Maine Senior Games and qualified to go to the national senior games in 2027. What do I do now?

Once Maine results are sent to the National Senior Games office you will get a postcard from Nationals to confirm your qualification.

  • Competition schedule
  • Lodging
  • Special events such as the Celebration of Athletes and more
  • How and when you can register
  • Venues for each event
  • Mileage charts from hotels to venues
  • Transportation and parking
  • Athlete check-in once you arrive in Tulsa
  • Athlete merchandise

Athletes must make their own arrangements to attend the National Senior Games and pay all expenses. The Maine Senior Games Coordinator may provide information and answer questions.
